Breast Reconstruction Norfolk

Breast Reconstruction can be a positive step toward feeling healthy and whole again after losing one or both breasts due to a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other congenital deformities. Breast reconstruction may not be right for every woman–it is a personal decision dependent on preference and your health. There is no right way to move on after the loss of one or both breasts. Breast reconstruction, for those women who opt for it, may be performed in multiple stages either at the time of the mastectomy, or even some time afterwards.

The reconstruction is typically performed using one of two techniques: the flap reconstruction technique (which uses tissue from another area of the patient’s body to rebuild the breast), or a breast implant reconstruction (which uses a saline or silicone breast implant to rebuild the breast). Things to considering when deciding which route may be the best for you include: the type of cancer treatment, the type of mastectomy performed, and body type. Your plastic surgeon will walk you through these options to help you make the most informed decision that is in the best interest for your unique body and situation. If you are interested in learning more about the breast reconstruction procedures and your options, contact our office to schedule your consultation today.
