Sagging thighs can be a thing of the past thanks to the thigh lift, a surgical procedures used to tighten and sculpt the thighs. With a thigh lift, also known as a thighplasty, excess skin and deposits of sagging fat can be expertly removed, leaving behind beautifully toned and contoured legs.
Ideal thigh-lift candidates are patients who do not smoke, are in overall good health, and have a good understanding of the results they will be able to achieve with the procedure. If you are unhappy with the look of your thighs and want to get rid of drooping skin and excess fat, this plastic-surgery option may be right for you.
In many cases, this procedure is undergone by patients who have recently experienced major weight loss. Weight loss can create a great deal of excess loose skin, since the skin may have trouble shrinking back down after its underlying fat layer has been reduced in volume. With this procedure, the excess skin can be surgically trimmed away, leaving natural and attractive results.
This procedure takes approximately three hours to perform. At the start of a thigh lift, general anesthesia will be administered to the patient. General anesthesia will ensure that the patient is comfortable, unconscious, and free of any pain during the entirety of the thigh-lift surgery.
Once the patient is under, the incisions can be created. Thigh-lift incisions are made in the groin region, and they can extend down the inner part of the thigh toward the knee or to the hip depending on the part of the thigh being contoured. Incisions allow access to the underlying tissues.
Liposuction is used to remove excess stubborn fat from the thighs. This involves the use of a cannula, a thin tube with sharp end. The sharp end loosens the fat and then medical suction carries the fatty tissue out of the body.
A scalpel is used to trim away excess loose skin from the thighs. The skin is redraped and tightened. Stitches are used to close the incisions, which are then dressed appropriately.
The recovery process required after a thighplasty surgery will call for a great deal of care on the part of the patient. They will need to follow Drs. Colen and Uroskie’s post-surgical care instructions as closely as possible in order to achieve quality results and avoid any complications.
At the start of recovery, an elastic compression garment will need to be worn on the thighs. This garment helps to control post-surgical bruising and swelling and results in tighter skin after healing.
It will be necessary to stay home from work for a time in order to rest and heal. Stay away from physically strenuous activities like heavy exercise for around for to six weeks; damaging the healing incisions will delay full healing and can cause issues.
Once the bruising and swelling has resolved and the incisions have healed, the results of the thighplasty will be evident. The thighs will be contoured and toned.
